| Unlawful
Discrimination
Direct discrimination
occurs when one person is treated less favourably than another in
comparable circumstances. Indirect discrimination happens when a
condition or requirement is applied to all persons, but it has a
proportionally adverse effect on a particular group of people. Identifying
acts or conduct which may amount to unlawful discrimination can
be a complex task for those unfamiliar with anti-discrimination
laws. Unlawful discrimination can occur in all types of situations,
including in the workplace, schools, shops, restaurants, hotels
and clubs. It can also occur when renting or managing premises.
Defending claims of unlawful discrimination is costly, even more
so if you end up paying large sums of compensation.
